Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA’s Youth Making Health a Priority 2.0 (YMHP 2.0) aims to reduce transmission of HIV among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) ages 13-29, including those who identify as transgender or gender nonconforming, with a focus on communities of color in Brooklyn. YMHP will use a strength-based, youth development approach to provide culturally competent and comprehensive prevention and support services, including client recruitment through enhanced and new media outreach; health education and risk reduction counseling; linkage to HIV, STD, and HCV testing and screening; linkage, navigation, and retention to care; linkage to supportive services; and workforce development services. The workforce development services will be embedded within social activities that are planned, managed, and led by LGBTQ+ youth and young adults of color. YMHP will provide services to at least 300 participants.

Position: Bilingual (Spanish/English) Client Advocate

Reports To: Assistant Program Manager

What The Bilingual (Spanish/English) Client Advocate Does:

  • Recruit clients into multi-pronged interventions consisting of sexual health and social services support.
  • Promote the program and provide information on HIV prevention and biomedical Interventions to clients through gay hook-up apps (e.g., Grindr, Jack’d, Hornet, Adam4Adam) and social media platforms.
  • Assist program staff to facilitate and organize events for iWerk! an intervention addressing employment barriers for YMSM.
  • Provide HIV/STI testing/referrals for LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Recruit gay and non-gay identified YMSM And Transgender & Non-Binary People ages 13-29 of color for group and individual HIV/STD/Hepatitis C testing; PEP and PrEP services; and risk reduction counseling.
  • Create and post content for social marketing campaigns addressing HIV prevention and other health concerns for MSMoC.
  • Conduct outreach activities at venues frequented by YMSM/TGNB individuals to recruit new clients and re-engage former clients.
  • Develop action plans with clients enrolled in navigation or support services.
  • Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress.
  • In collaboration with program staff, work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency.
  • Contact clients via telephone, mail and/or face-to-face home and office visits to ensure adherence to program, and document via progress notes.
  • Escort clients to appointments (educational, medical, social service, etc.).
  • Provide all required information for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Create and maintain client files and make copies of all client documents.
  • Prescreen clients over the telephone for eligibility and schedule intake appointments as needed.
  • Assist clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms.
  • Input client data and client progress information into automated database.
  • Participate in evaluation activities, such as conducting surveys with support group and event participants.
  • Required to work occasional evenings/weekend days.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Sufficient education (English-speaking, reading, writing, & math abilities) to comprehend oral and written information and to assist callers and visitors and staff.

Other Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in a mid-sized (250+ employees) organization.
  • Good written & verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Knowledge about, understanding of, and ability to work closely with, persons with HIV/AIDS and related issues.
  • Experience and/or comfort conducting online outreach via social media and dating/”hook-up” apps and websites frequented by YMSM/TGNB individuals.
  • Flexibility to work on required occasional evenings/weekend days.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a must.

Compensation: $42,000-$43,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
